Susan Mills Richmond is a Staff Attorney for the Legal Aid Society of Rockland County, Inc., (“LASRC”). She handles a Ryan White caseload of HIV/AIDS clients and works with Case Managers and clients to meet legal needs of clients in Rockland County. Ms. Richmond also performs outreach in the community to let potential clients know of services available. Her legal matters include housing issues, Social Security applications and disability appeals, advanced directives and health care proxies, public benefits law, and litigation relating to these areas. She also defends against evictions and foreclosures and handles related issues.
Prior to working at LASRC, Ms. Richmond was in private law practice in her own firm and also handled a variety of litigation and transactional matters as In-House Counsel for ADP, Inc., and then its spin-off company, CDK Global, LLC. In these capacities, she handled complex litigation of all kinds, including but not limited to insurance, bankruptcy, foreclosure, employment, family law, and commercial law and litigation matters, as well as arbitrations and hearing officer cases.
Ms. Richmond strategized and provided key advice orally and in writing and exerted a leadership role in oversight and direction of the managing of significant litigation.,
Ms. Richmond is admitted to practice law in New York, as well as in the federal courts in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and in the US Supreme Court. She has a Juris Doctor Degree With Distinction from Hofstra Law School, where she was Managing Editor of the Hofstra Law Review. In addition, Ms. Richmond clerked for a federal judge in the US Bankruptcy Court and practiced earlier on in her career at major law firms in New York City.
Ms. Richmond currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Education Law, Bankruptcy, and Wellness Committees of the Westchester Women’ Bar Association. Furthermore, is an Impartial Hearing Officer for the NY State Education Department and is on the panels for arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association , FINRA (Securities Law) , NY State Workers’ Compensation Board, and for the District Court in the Eastern District of New York. Ms. Richmond is also a mediator in the Bankruptcy Court, SDNY and EDNY.
In addition, she has published several articles in scholarly journals and lectures on various legal topics.
