Are You Losing Your Essential Plan Coverage? Here’s What You Need to Know

If your income is between 200% and 250% of the Federal Poverty Level, your New York Essential Plan coverage may end on July 1, 2026 due to changes in federal funding — not because of anything you did.

The good news? You have options.

✅ You have until September 1, 2026, to enroll in a new health plan through your Special Enrollment Period. Enrolling sooner can help you avoid gaps in coverage.

✅ Many people will qualify for financial assistance to help lower the cost of a Marketplace health plan, although costs may be higher than they were under the Essential Plan.

✅ Free enrollment assistance is available. Call 1-855-355-5777 or visit nystateofhealth.ny.gov to speak with a certified enrollment assistor.

⚠️ Be cautious of scams. No one should pressure you to enroll immediately, ask you to pay for enrollment assistance, or refuse to identify themselves as a certified enrollment assistor.

If you’re worried about how these changes could affect your health or your budget, you don’t have to navigate them alone. If you’re eligible for Medicaid, the Social Care Network can also help connect you with food, housing, and transportation support that can improve your health and well-being.
